The next phase of ISO 20022 updates for the Fedwire Funds Service is scheduled to take effect on November 16, 2026. While we do not anticipate significant disruption from this update, there are several changes that may impact how your credit union creates and processes domestic wires.
What’s Changing?
One of the most significant changes is the replacement of the current fully unstructured postal address format with a hybrid postal address format. Under the new format, the Town Name and Country will be required when postal address information is provided. Additional structured address information may also be included.
What You Need to Know About Wire Templates
If your credit union uses wire templates, please be aware that templates will need to be updated on November 16, 2026 – templates are not editable in advance of the go-live-date. Because new address fields will become required, you may need to update existing templates to include the necessary information before they can be used. We encourage your wire staff to be aware of these changes and prepared to review and update templates as needed once the new format is live.
Updated ISO 20022 Guide Available on coreCONNECT
Millennium Corporate has updated its “ISO 20022 Domestic Wire Reference Guide & Overview” to help your team better understand what the upcoming changes will look like. The guide is available on coreCONNECT, both on the homepage and in the Downloads tab. We recommend reviewing the updated guide and sharing it with staff who create, process, or maintain wire templates.
