A record-breaking rally in US stocks came to a halt as peace talks in the Middle East remained in limbo, keeping Brent crude above $100 a barrel. S&P 500 futures fell 0.2%. The yield on 10-year Treasuries was little changed at 4.31%.

Economy
US initial jobless claims rose to a level of 214,000 in the employment survey week ended April 18 from an upwardly revised 208,000 level in the previous week, compared with expectations for an increase to 210,000 in survey of analysts compiled by Bloomberg.

The US said it’s waiting for a response from Iran before the warring sides can restart peace talks, with the impasse and worsening tension over the Strait of Hormuz causing energy prices to rise again.
