Data showing the American economy grew at a weaker-than-anticipated pace drove stocks lower. American equities nearly wiped out their weekly advance, with the S&P 500 dropping 0.3%. The yield on 10- year Treasuries was little changed at 4.07%.

Economy
The US economy grew less than expected at the end of last year, dragged down by a record-long government shutdown, consumer spending and trade. Inflation-adjusted GDP increased an annualized 1.4% in the fourth quarter after rising 4.4% in the prior period.

President Trump is weighing an initial limited military strike on Iran to force it to meet his demands for a nuclear deal, a first step that would be designed to pressure Tehran into an agreement but fall short of a fullscale attack that could inspire a major retaliation.
