Wall Street found some relief after the recent slide in stocks and bonds as oil prices fell, with traders betting the Federal Reserve will boost rates to fight inflation and defend its credibility. The S&P 500 rose 0.2%. The yield on 10-year Treasuries declined three basis points to 4.97%.

Economy
US retail sales rose by the most in five months in a broad advance, showing consumers continued to spend despite rising gasoline prices. The value of retail purchases increased 1.2% in August after a revised 0.5% decline in July, according to Census Bureau data.
